SOP/NDMA
The National Disaster Management Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for schools emphasize creating a safe environment through preparedness, clear evacuation plans, and regular safety drills. These guidelines are in line with the directives of bodies such as the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), so that students and staff can be protected from natural and man-made hazards.
Preparedness and Response at the Local Level
- The school has constituted a Disaster Management Committee and appointed a nodal teacher for safety.
- The school has sensitized/made aware the School Management Committee.
- The school has formed a group of trained peer educators to assist fellow students during emergencies.
The School Disaster Management Plan includes:
- Warning systems (centralized PA system)
- Identification of evacuation routes
- Secure boundary walls, CCTV cameras, and clear entry points for emergency vehicles.
- Special support systems for children with special physical or medical needs during emergencies
- Stock of emergency equipment and its regular maintenance
- Systematic arrangements for evacuating students during an emergency
- A site map showing evacuation routes and assembly areas
- Regular mock drills for fire, flood, and earthquake, so that everyone knows what to do in an emergency.
